Location:
Mariemont Village is a National Historic Landmark District known for its 1920’s English Tudor revival architecture. However, I go for the croissants.
The village is walkable near parks and storefront shopping, born out of Mary Emery’s vision in the early 20th century to create a planned community. It was designed by the town planner of Cambridge, Massachusetts, John Nolen.
If you’re not expecting it, it can be somewhat disorienting to happen upon this unique neighborhood. Emerging from urban Cincy streets, it feels as though you’ve been transported into a small European cottage town.
Mariemont South 80 trails are located on a historic site known for its burial mounds.
Map directions:
Park at the Mariemont swimming pool parking lot located at:
6000 Mariemont Ave, Cincinnati, OH 45227 [link to Maps here]
Walk down to the trails from the pool.
Distance:
3-4 miles if you run the main outer perimeter twice as well as a the John & Judy Ruthven Nature Preserve, which is the property directly south of the South 80 Loop
Another option is 3.4 miles along the Algonquen Way.
Park details:
Dogs allowed.
There’s an upper trail and lower trail.
On the lower path you have your choice of two paths:
Trails along the inner loop around a community garden are flat and gravel, great for runs on muddy days.
Outer trails are dirt and follow along the views of the Little Miami River.
Inner loop trails are open with a lot of sunshine, perfect for colder days to keep you warm.
After the run recommendations:
A trip to Sebastian’s Bakehouse can motivate me to run even on the coldest days. Visit them for some of the most delicious and artfully crafted pastries in the country while also checking out the black and white cottage architecture in the iconic village setting.
